The native tokens used on the Avalanche C-Chain are ARC-20 assets. To make transactions and interact with contracts on the Avalanche Network, you are required to pay for gas fees, which comes in the form of AVAX. For tokens you are looking to stake or provide liquidity with on Avalanche, you will also need the ARC-20 version of these tokens.
To obtain ARC-20 tokens, the most popular route involves:
Creating an Avalanche Wallet
Sending AVAX from a Centralized Exchange (CEX) to the Avalanche wallet
Transfer funds from the Avalanche wallet to a MetaMask wallet that is connected to Avalanche
Visit https://wallet.avax.network/ to create an Avalanche Wallet. Select "Create New Wallet" and follow the subsequent instructions.
Purchase AVAX from a CEX, ideally one that is reputable and is listed as one of the supported exchanges on CoinMarketCap. The most popular exchange to buy AVAX is Binance.
After purchasing AVAX from your CEX of choice, send AVAX to your Avalanche Wallet that was created in Step 1. To do this, look for your wallet address that starts with "X-avax1" on your Avalanche Wallet and send the AVAX purchased from the CEX to this wallet address.
Once you have completed this, proceed to setting up your MetaMask with Avalanche.
